After a year of growth and change, TransNational Bankcard released the 2011 Corporate Social Responsibility Report that explains changes in environmental practices, employee well being, and communal growth over the past year.

One highlight for TransNational in 2011 was the much-necessary move of its corporate headquarters from Rolling Meadows, IL to Rosemont, IL. Within this move, TransNational was able to consolidate its corporate offices and its sales offices into one location, reducing its carbon footprint with more efficient lighting (including better use of natural light,) as well as offering a more accessible workplace for those relying on public transportation to commute to and from work.

But this move is just one of many developments occurring in the past year for TransNational. To read the full CSR Report, like us on Facebook, or go to http://www.tnbci.com/index.php/our-company.

Every January 1st, millions of people set their sights on new resolutions motivating them to take charge of their health, academics, wealth, and more. By January 31st, only about 64 percent of those resolutions are maintained. In the first few weeks, many resolution-setters realize that their goals were simply unattainable. They give up. After trying hard for days, even weeks, there just isn’t enough measurable change to encourage continuing down this life-altering path.

What if we told you that we could get you one step closer to achieving your New Year’s goals, at least those revolving around financial woes? As it gets harder and harder for small businesses to obtain growth and success, it becomes more and more important for business owners to be able to account for every expenditure. A commonly over-looked expense is that of accepting credit cards. As many business owners can attest, every time you swipe a credit card, you receive the payment total, less a percentage of the sale. At TransNational, we believe that by providing you with in-depth information about credit card processing, you will be better equipped to take charge of your money and make the best return on your credit card processing.

Make a New Year’s Resolution that can Help Your Small Business Grow!

The National Association for Business Economics (NABE,) predicts little growth (2.4 percent) in the first half of 2012. Although consumer spending is expected to increase 2.1 percent, small businesses need to hunker down for another rough year. In an effort to ease the economic impact, close management of your business’ resources will become essential.

Although TransNational cannot give you all the answers, we can share some insight that can help you manage your processing solutions in favor of your business.

Fighting Fraud*

For card present merchants, it is important to ensure the legitimacy of the card, cardholder and transaction. Under VISA U.S.A. Inc. Operating Regulations, either the merchant or their sales associates must check the card security features (such as AVS, CVV2/CVC2, etc.,) request an authorization, and obtain the cardholder’s signature.

6 Warning Signs of Fraud

For card not present (CNP) merchants, it is important to ensure legitimacy of the card with an expiration date as well as the AVS, CVV2 or CVC2.

12 Potential Signs of Fraud for CNP Purchases

Dispute Resolution/Managing Your Chargebacks*

In order to prevent unnecessary fees from being assessed to your processing bill, it is important to understand chargebacks. A chargeback is simply the return of funds to a consumer. They usually occur because of customer disputes, fraud, processing errors, authorization issues, and non-fulfillment of copy requests. However, many types of chargebacks are caused by an easily avoidable mistake. This means that it is essential for you to understand these mistakes, so you can avoid them in the future.

16 Tips to Avoid Potential Chargebacks

Getting What’s Yours from the Durbin Amendment

On October 1, 2011, the Fed implemented the Durbin Amendment (part of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act) as a way to combat perceived price gouging on debit card interchange fees and save merchants a percentage of what they currently pay to banks.

Under the Durbin Amendment, the cap on fees assessed on debit card transaction has been cut to approximately 22 cents, but many merchants may not be seeing a price cut on processing. Some merchant processing companies have discovered the loophole in the new amendment and may not be passing these savings on to the merchants.

Business owners who are currently unsure whether their merchant card processor is working in their best interest are encouraged to call TransNational at (847) 655-1300 to set up a free consultation and comprehensive analysis of their current fees.

TRANSNATIONAL BANKCARD TO SPONSOR LINCOLN PARK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HOLIDAY PARTY AND SILENT AUCTION

ROSEMONT, IL (Nov. 22, 2011) – The holidays are almost here, and to TransNational Bankcard that means giving back to those that have helped the business over the past year. Last week, Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce announced TransNational as this year’s sponsor for the LPCC Holiday Party and Silent Auction on December 1.

The Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce (LPCC) is the largest neighborhood chamber in the Chicago area, with the mission to help business success and economic development in Lincoln Park. Providing the outlet companies need for visibility and growth, LPCC helps educate business owners on new marketplace opportunities.

“Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce has served as an excellent resource for TransNational and greatly enhanced our business network,” said Jae Haas, president of TransNational. LPCC has helped increase TransNational’s visibility throughout the Chicago marketplace by helping promote the brand and its partners, while connecting the company to other chamber members.

Haas continued, “Presenting TransNational with a sponsorship opportunity is just another way the LPCC has helped develop our brand. Becoming a member of the LPCC was a great business decision that has led to invaluable business relationships.”

Kim Schilf, LPCC president and CEO, said the chamber appreciates TransNational’s support. “TransNational’s partnership with our organization and our contacts at their business remain professional and high-level. We look forward to further opportunities for mutual growth in 2012 and beyond,” stated Schilf.

The 2011 LPCC Holiday Party and Silent Auction is December 1, at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s administrative building. Registration is available online at www.lincolnparkchamber.com. For more information about the party, call the LPCC office at (773) 880-5200.

ROSEMONT, IL (Nov. 17, 2011) – On November 15, The Chicago Tribune announced the Top 100 Workplaces in the Chicago-land area, naming TransNational Bankcard for a second year in a row. The list is comprised of companies whose employees completed a survey powered by Workplace Dynamics, of Pennsylvania.

When John Pitzaferro created TransNational in 1999, there was no expectation of receiving a reward for treating employees well. “It had never occurred to me to not have my employees in my best interest. They are the representatives of TransNational,” said Pitzaferro, now CEO of TransNational. “If my employees aren’t happy, we have a real problem!”

After working many years in sales, and seeing workplace travesties unfold, the math behind shaping a positive work environment became clear to Pitzaferro. He implemented a sales model at TransNational that gave people the opportunity to truly succeed. This system incorporated a higher commission rate and a residual program that could benefit an employee from deal one, and for years to come.

According to the survey, Pitzaferro and his executive team earn the trust and confidence of their employees, continually build supporting relationships within the company, and offer very competitive pay and benefits.

“I like TransNational because it is very team-oriented,” explained Julie Luciano, an accounting clerk at TransNational. Luciano has been with the company for five years and praised the company’s managers for their ability to provide constructive feedback. “They provide support and acknowledgement for the employees in day-to-day operations, and allow for upward mobility inside the company.”

So, what is the secret behind making employees like Luciano happy? How has TransNational been able to rank in the top 15 small businesses for two consecutive years? “It’s simple,” said Jae Haas, president of TransNational. “We only hire the most qualified people, who have a genuine interest in building their career. Our goal as employers is to provide whatever support we can to help them achieve their goals.” One might call it a true team dynamic.

“What’s different about TransNational at its core,” continued Haas “Is, believe it or not, the ability of its employees to come together and work towards a common goal. We all want to see TransNational succeed, and we believe when our employees are happy, it shows in the quality of their work.”

But why? In an industry that is renowned for price gauging, it can become challenging for a company to have a positive reputation. “It’s all too familiar to me,” said Pitzaferro. “I’ve been in a workplace where employees were way under paid, while the executives were gaining huge margins. It’s not the way to treat people, especially your people.”

TransNational’s business model is simple: all employees operate under open-book pretenses; meaning honesty and integrity are their biggest virtues. It is Pitzaferro’s goal to redefine the merchant processing industry into a positive light. “Maybe our company should have been called Beacon,” joked Pitzaferro.

ROSEMONT, IL – November 8, 2011 – TransNational, a merchant processing company, announced today that it will now offer an easier way to handle signed documents.

EchoSign, recently acquired by Adobe, is a web-based provider of electronic signatures. Using this system, TransNational will be able to send important documents via email to merchants, which the merchants can then electronically sign and return to TransNational. EchoSign will then automatically store the copy and make it accessible to both parties.

“Having this technology available to our company will enable our sales force to spend less time obtaining and handling signatures, and more time focusing on customer service,” said Jae Haas, president of TransNational. “EchoSign will help reduce the time and costs of having to use traditional methods, such as fax and mail, and can increase sales while managing documents in a secure forum online.”

EchoSign is fully compliant with the federal E-SIGN Act that ensures these electronic signatures are valid and legal, as well as confidential. It has been designed with ASP security to ensure full protection of information.

As a secure and efficient outlet for transferring information, EchoSign will help TransNational provide better customer service through reduced processing time and lower costs of having a signed document.

Haas continued, “Having a merchant-centric focus, we jump at the opportunity to better our relationships with clients. If this means making it easier to send and receive documents, then it is important that TransNational uses the most effective and efficient web-based application out there. I could not have more confidence that EchoSign is that portal.”

ROSEMONT, IL (Nov. 1, 2011) – On October 10, TransNational opened a new sales office in the Tampa, FL marketplace. This growth has ushered in a great opportunity for expansion for TransNational, as well as new job opportunities for Tampa area residents.

Having a national presence since 1999, TransNational decided it was time to expand its sales force to accommodate its strong growth in the industry. With an extended sales force, TransNational can offer personal selling to another branch of the United States market and be better equipped to maintain a merchant-centric focus during expansion.

“The idea is to continue to offer the same premium service at an affordable rate, but now we are able to reach a larger portion of the market with our passionate sales staff,” said Jae Haas, president of TransNational. “Finding the right people is key, but if we can keep this momentum going into the future, we look forward to establishing even more offices across the U.S.”

With promises of corporate growth come exciting and new opportunities for those active in the job market. TransNational’s Tampa office will create between seven and 10 full time jobs in the Tampa Bay area this year, with hopes to add more in the future.

“We are thrilled to make the move into Tampa, and even more excited to add additional team members to our already diverse workforce. Our employees work so well together, and we can’t wait to share our fun and unique, yet effective, company culture with new employees,” said Bob Miller, director of corporate recruiting at TransNational.

In 2010, TransNational was named a Chicago Tribune Top 100 Workplace. This annual report is based on surveys taken and submitted by the employees of Chicago-land companies. “We’ve always strived to be a workplace that takes care of our employees, enables them to succeed, and makes work fun,” said John Pitzaferro, CEO of TransNational. “It’s been exciting to see that recognized in the past, but right now we are looking forward to extending that reputation into the Tampa market and throughout the state of Florida.”

Salespeople interested in advancing their career should contact Miller at (847) 655-1319.

ROSEMONT, IL (Oct 25, 2011) – On October 1, the Fed implemented the Durbin Amendment (part of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act) as a way to combat perceived price gouging on debit card interchange fees and save merchants a percentage of what they currently pay to banks.

Under the Durbin Amendment, the cap on fees assessed on debit card transaction has been cut to approximately 22 cents, but many merchants may not be seeing a price cut on processing. Some merchant processing companies have discovered the loophole in the new amendment.

Merchant processors act as a required third party liaison between the merchant and the bank. The processor charges the merchant on behalf of the bank, validates the funds, and sends the payment on to the merchant’s bank. Nowhere in the new law does it dictate merchant processors must pass on the savings to the merchants. Unfortunately for consumers, processors are now experiencing savings on behalf of the new legislation, instead of merchants, who were then expected to pass those savings on to them. Now, debit cards are costing more to use and merchants have not been able to lower their prices.

For clients of TransNational, this will not be the case. The company was founded on the notion of being a full disclosure provider of merchant card services that its clients can truly trust. “The merchant-centric focus of TransNational has allowed us to provide best in class products and services at unbeatable rates. We have been a pioneer in the revolution of ethics and excellence in the bankcard industry and will continue to serve our customers with fair and ethical practices, including relaying the Durbin savings on to the merchant. Hopefully we will all be paying a little less in the future,” said Jae Haas, president of TransNational.

Business owners who are currently unsure whether their merchant card processor is working in their best interest are encouraged to call TransNational at (847) 655-1300 to set up a free consultation and comprehensive analysis of their current fees.
